Suranga Lakmal, for me, is a typical Sri Lankan quick. Medium pace and doesn’t offer much that others do not. Not being disrespectful to Sri Lankan quicks of course, but pace is rarely the strong point of subcontinental teams.
In the recent tour of the UK, Lakmal was included in the XI for the second test as replacement for Chameera. Once Chameera was confirmed with a side strain, Lakmal filled the hole for the remainder of the series.
Despite contributing with a few wickets in each of the second and third tests, I don’t think he did enough to displace Chameera permanently. Chameera is a strike bowler and will be crucial to Sri Lanka’s plans moving forward.
Prediction: I’ll be expecting Lakmal to carry the drinks for this one.
