Dimuth Karunaratne is a solid left-hand opening batsman. Only averaging 34.33, but still in the earlier days of a career at 28 tests. He seemed to have a couple of good seasons where he plundered runs in the domestic competition at an average of 56.54 but hasn’t reproduced the form since.
He’s probably going to enjoy batting at home after a terrible tour of the UK. Only one half-century and an average lucky to break 20 from memory; possibly at the crossroads a bit. I’m not sure what talent is pressuring him at the top of the order. But I dare say a big series at home against the number one ranked test nation will keep the wolves at bay.
I get a feeling that Starc/Hazlewood are going to win the battle here. But if he gets through, I love watching an opener turn it on after doing the hard yards.
Prediction: A bunny for the Aussie attack.
