I’m going to keep it pretty short.
When the start of the summer was getting closer, I was thinking about what I wanted to see this year. I went back and forth between back to back series clean sweeps and the idea of hard fought close series victories. Maybe even a single series loss; that would be understandable given the quality of opposition that are touring this year.
Then it hit me… What we actually need is to get our pants pulled down and cop a good spanking.
Every year the winter tours are nothing but underperformance or the bullying of the little guys. Then the cracks in the system are papered over with home ground white-washes and innings victories. It drives me up the bloody wall.
The time has come for us to hit a low point. Another one. A deeper one. But this time we need a proper shake up.
I want Pat Howard sent packing back to Rugby Union. I want Rod Marsh gone sooner than his contract expires. The number of mixed messages that he has sent out during his tenure at the top is getting ridiculous. I want a tough, uncompromising bastard named as the new head of selectors, at a minimum someone with decent communication. Steve Waugh or Ricky Ponting will do.
Lastly, I want James Sutherland to be at least looking over his shoulder wondering if he’s next… or gone. That’s all without even looking at the team.
For the most part on our good days, it looks pretty close. But in reality I feel the line-up for the Ashes next year will look very different. We all know the names that are under the pump and who is on the fringes. So let’s just start with the administration side and let those changes in personnel and policy naturally filter down to the team.
Agree? Disagree? Tell me why/why not.
C’mon the Saffas 3-0…
